Daily Prompt #30

Wacky Wednesday! Time to write something weird, something surreal, something monstrous, something silly.

Today’s wackiness is going to draw from your own life. Our prompt will be another from the wonderful Tell It Slant by Brenda Miller and Suzanne Paola.

“Memory, in a sense, is imagination: an ‘imagining’ of the past, re-creating the sights, sounds, smells, tastes, and touches.” (Tell It Slant, pg. 154)

The goal for today’s prompt is to hit every one of your five senses. Also, feel free to use the tool of conjecture in your essay—“If it went like a wanted it to, instead of how it did, it would have gone like____,” or “Maybe, ____.” Some clue that you are straying from the nonfiction of the moment you are writing about.

Chapter 10: Try It 14

“Write a list of the topics/issues in your life that are “forbidden” to speak about, the things you could never write. Choose one of these, and then begin to write about it in a hermit crab form.” (pg. 126)

When you are choosing your writing style shell, think of how to subvert your content based on today’s theme of wackiness. What if you write about being raised Catholic in the format of an ouija board manual?
